I was just outside on my balcony smoking.  The only star in the sky was ...ummm one of the planets...that rises where orion does.  Off to the North east I saw a star as bright as polaris and thought nothing of it....until I realized it was flying silently!!! called the kids...was like LOOK LOOK... it flew from north to south and disappeared right infront of our eyes.  It was amazing!

just to add...it was as bright as the brightest star or brighter...it and the other ONE star which I know is one of the planets were the only two things in the sky.  This JUST happened.  Say around 5:38 or so.  It was flying too slow to be a meteorite...and manouvered a bit up and down and straight...silently until it just vanished right before our eyes.  The sky wasn't even fully dark yet.

Sounds like the stuff I saw ... travels along and goes poof ... gone.

yah, it was definitely not a satellite....I thought it was polaris at first...until I realized it was flying across the sky.  Not straight either.  On a downward path but moving up and down on occasion...slowly and a bit side to side.  SO BRIGHT.  Then gone .... I screamed WOOOHOOOO!!! when it disappeared.  I was happy because the kids got to watch that with me...and I was like YOUR FIRST REAL UFO!! and they were like...that was definitely a UFO.  Sooooo I've seen one (actually 2 at once) with my hubby and one with my kids.  So weird.

after it disappeared....my kids saw a light out in the distance near the houses but in the field.  It was near the ground moving to the side and then faded away.  This light appeared with in the minute that the light disappeared from the sky.  I may have seen it...I was straining trying to see what they saw.  I wear glasses....had them on but sometimes still don't see as well as they do.

I love stuff like that. I still can't get over the green fire ball that streaked down after I made that post. I went inside, came out, walked what - six steps? - and POW .. right in front of me. What were the odds?

once when my daughter was around 1 or so, my husband was driving home from up north...working and I was at home up in our apartment on the 19th floor and we both saw a huge green ball of fire streak across the sky.  We both couldn't wait to tell each other what we saw...and we had seen the same thing!

Was yours approx 14 years or so ago?

nvm...duh it was recent..yours LOL

Oh get this, my daughter was dating a boy a in the summer and in September.  I google his mothers name and both his mom's and his name came up on a NASA website! it is the Stardust mission.  They let people send their names on a chip into space.  This was back in 1997 I believe and she added hers and her sons name.  Weird eh?  His name is out in space forever more.

about the names on the microchip

stardust.jpl.nasa.gov/overview/microchip/index.html

ov_faq_microchip.gif

Notice:
Stardust was launched on February 7, 1999 carrying the two microchips. Two copies of each chip were installed on the spacecraft (for a total of four chips). Two of the microchips (#1 & #2) are inside the Sample Return Capsule, and was returned back to Earth with the capsule when it landed in Utah on January 15, 2006. The capsule along with the microchips have been transported to the curation facility at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas on January 17, 2006, where they currently reside. The other two chips are on the spacecraft body and will remain in space forever.

Below, we have a listing of all of the names submitted and that have been inscribed onto the microchips. The names are sorted alphabetically by last name for easy lookup. Note that there are two lists, so if you don't find your name in one list, be sure to check the other list.

To the genealogy people: we've been receiving a lot of inquiries from people researching their family trees and have who have discovered our microchip name listings. The names on the microchip were collected as a public outreach effort. We do not have any information or background on any of the people whose names were submitted, nor do we have any way of contacting these people

ov_microchip1.gif

During October-November, 1997, we had our first name collection effort. Over 136,000 names were collected, and the names were etched on the microchip in December 1997. The chip was then delivered to Denver, Colorado where the spacecraft was being assembled. The microchip was inserted inside the Sample Return Capsule where it currently resides. A second copy of the chip was placed on the spacecraft body.

A second name collection effort was performed from May-August 1998. For the second microchip, we found a location on the back of the arm holding the dust collector for the chip to reside. We have collected over 1 million names for the second chip. Like with the first microchip, two copies were made, with one inside the Sample Return Capsule, and the other copy on the spacecraft body.
